Last night the Big Guy picked me up from work and we headed over to DMK. We shared some gruyere mac-n-cheese and deviled eggs. But what I’ve been really after lately is BLT wedge salads.
There’s something about homemade blue cheese dressing and fresh bacon that I can’t get enough of. So how did this Burger Bar measure up? The presentation was quite nice, but as for ease, not so good. Instead of chopped bacon they opted for a full strip layer across the wedge, it looks great but cutting up bacon is task. I also really liked that they added cucumbers to the dish, it gave the salad a personal touch. I’d say DMK’s wedge salad was better than Fulton’s on the River and half the price!
But the best wedge I’ve had has actually been at Bar Louie. The salad is pretty simple- bacon, lettuce, tomato, and blue cheese dressing. What makes Bar Louie’s better than all the others I’ve tried is the tomatoes and the 2nd dressing. They use basil and olive oil soaked tomatoes and add vinaigrette to one half of the wedge. It’s mixture with the blue cheese is genius.
